Transforming a former industrial site into a vibrant community hub takes vision, collaboration, and thoughtful engineering. We’re incredibly proud to have played a role in bringing the Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center to life.
A huge thank you to Baltimore Recnparks for the opportunity to present alongside their talented team on a snowy March Day on the project. Together with GWWO Architects, we’ve helped create a space in Cherry Hill where recreation, wellness, and nature combine.
This 20-acre transformation delivers real value to the community, including:
➡️ Renovated pool and updated gathering spaces
➡️ New fitness and wellness amenities
➡️ Shared-use trail and dedicated fitness loop
➡️ Ripken artificial turf field and soccer field
➡️ Future phases with a dog park and basketball courts
MK provided civil engineering, cost estimating, and value engineering services. The site’s history as a former incinerator facility introduced complex environmental challenges — most notably ash contamination. Working closely with regulatory agencies, our team developed a solution to safely cap impacted soils. To address stormwater with minimal disturbance to underlying materials, surface sand filters and sand filter trenches along the turf field were constructed.
Located within the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, the project also required careful navigation of environmental regulations, including off-site tree mitigation.
Projects like this are what community-centered design looks like — turning challenging sites into spaces that serve and uplift neighborhoods. If you’re in Cherry Hill, take a walk along the new trail and experience it for yourself. ... See MoreSee Less
