Project Overview
Serving 2,500 students from Ft. Meade and the surrounding community, Meade High School required extensive renovation and expansion to provide exciting opportunities for its students. Funded by a Department of Defense (DoD) grant and Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ budget, this modern High School seeks to create productive citizens and successful leaders.
Our Approach
MK’s cost estimator supported studies and planning exercises in support of the DoD grant. Once the project funding was secured, MK provided site/civil engineering services for the renovation and addition project at this public high school serving a military installation. Proposed construction includes several building additions located on each side of the existing building, affecting site circulation and parking. Additional CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) measures were incorporated around the site.
The design team created a prominent main entrance, rather than separate entrances for on-base and off-base entry. This required a thoughtful site plan that separated bus traffic, off-base drop-off and parking, and on-base drop-off and parking, all with access to the new main entrance. We worked closely with AACPS transportation to develop safe and effective traffic patterns on site which minimize impact to surrounding roads, reduce congestion on site, and keep pedestrians safe.
